  • It's becoming popular also in Italy the tradition - American and Anglosaxon - to dress the bridesmaids (sisters, cousins or friends of the bride, but sometimes also the sister-in-law to-be) with the same model and colour of dress, bringing brightness and cheerfulness to the ceremony.     We have seen it in many American movies and we are starting to see it also now…. Following the proposal of young brides, who pioneer this foreign tradition in Italy.
    Moreover, the tradition of bridesmaids following the bride in the bridal procession originates from a legend which arrives to us from the ancient Egypt.
    The Egyptians believed that haunting spirits would show at the ceremony to ruin the celebration to the bride. Therefore, the maids of the bride would dress with dresses similar to hers to confuse and decoy the nasty spirits, thus unable to recognize the bride and to wish her bad luck and misfortune.

    On the contrary, now the brides have discovered it again, to wear something romantic and mysterious, also thanks to some fashion houses which propose it for next year in precious and up to date versions.
    The original use of the veil for the bride does not recall the virginal modesty of the bride who offers herself to her spouse, as one may think, but it originates from the Roman and not in the least romantic tradition of arrange marriages.
    In those times, marriages were arranged for political or economical reasons and the young couple did not meet at all before the day of the marriage.
    The bride would keep the face covered by the veil till the end of the ceremony to avoid that the groom changed his mind as soon as he saw the actual aspect of his spouse!

  • If you like it cool…… what about getting married in Lapland?
    The ceremony will take place in a little ice church in Jukkasjarvi in Svezia. The church is re-built every year in December to melt in April.
    The reception will be held at the Ice Hotel, where the temperature is always between minus 5 and 7 and the beds are carved out of ice, the matresses are made with fir tree brenches and the blanket of reindeerskin.
    An iceberg as tableau and the places are marked with frozen ice-cubes where your guests will find their names. The bride reaches the church with a horse or reindeer sledge.
